The Sunshine Series recently conducted a transformative wellness workshop for the dedicated staff at Action Aid Nigeria, an organization committed to eradicating poverty and promoting human rights for all. The workshop took place on August 16th, 2024, at Bon Hotel Octagon, Jahi, Abuja. Facilitated by The Sunshine Series Executive Director, Aisha Bubah, along with experts Adama Samuel Adama and Olajide Opeyemi, this impactful event focused on mental health and wellness in the workplace.
The wellness workshop focused on creating a space for employees to address workplace conflicts, relax, and nurture their mental well-being. We structured the program into two sessions, each targeting essential aspects of personal and professional wellness.
Session 1: Happy are the Peacemakers
This session focused on conflict resolution and gratitude. We grouped participants and asked them to reflect on two colleagues—one they felt grateful for and another with whom they had experienced conflict. Next, they wrote heartfelt letters to these individuals, expressing their thoughts. This exercise encouraged important conversations, improving communication and fostering stronger relationships at work.
Session 2: Sustaining the Soul that Serves
In the second session, we guided participants through mental well-being exercises to enhance their moods and boost productivity. The session started with a fun exercise where participants used their bodies to spell “COCONUT.” This activity transitioned into a calming guided meditation. To conclude, participants wrote positive affirmations anonymously and shared them with the group, ensuring everyone left with encouraging words of inspiration.
Overall, the workshop offered Action Aid Nigeria’s staff an opportunity to engage in meaningful dialogue, practice self-care, and strengthen their workplace culture. At The Sunshine Series, we believe that employee wellness programs are key to a successful business because healthy employees lead to thriving organizations.
